2nd futsal tournament underway

Kohima, March 12 (EMN): The 2nd Astro Turf Futsal Tournament under the aegis of – One Life, One Goal, One Chance (OLOGOC) Club got underway on Friday at Zasivi Futsal arena at Jotsoma in Kohima, with 34 teams from across the state participating.

Dr. Viposa, director of Gethemgo Sports International, Kohima said at the inaugural ceremony that every sportsperson should cultivate spirit of humility for progress while building good friendship with others. He added that having mentors in life is essential.

He reminded the participants to “dream big” and know the scope of the discipline they take up.

Neiketoulie Liezietsu, Finance Secretary of OLOGOC Club, highlighted the success of the first edition of the tournament and how it was “able to help” communities during the pandemic.

He also shared the club’s commitment to uplift the youths for a “better tomorrow”.

On day-one, 17 teams — Zienuo Shooters, Team Contenders, Arkelis, Friends FC, Highlanders FC “A”, We Are Brothers, 90’s Footprint FC, K7, Amigos, Adroit Boys, Fifa FC, Agape FC, Marturia, Zasivi FC, Spartans FC, Score Heroes and Friends FC — qualified for the pre- quarter finals.

The winning team and runners up of the tournament will receive INR 25,000 and INR 15,000 respectively along with certificates, and merchandise for best goalkeeper and man of the tournament.

The tournament will resume on Saturday from 8 am onwards.
