Changtongya Volleyball Association defeated MH-10 to emerge as the champions of the 2nd All Nagaland Dr. Imkongliba Ao Memorial Open Volleyball held at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur on Wednesday.

During the closing ceremony, Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, who was the special guest, congratulated the participants and expressed that ‘some may win and some may lose but all are stakeholders in the strengthening of volleyball in Nagaland’.

Expressing hope that sports would become part and parcel of Naga identity, he also encouraged the Naga youths to take sports seriously and bring laurels to the state.

He shared that the state government was doing its best to promote sportsmanship in Nagaland and therefore stated that one cannot blame the government or the people, ‘but we have to change the narrative and our goals’.

 “Nagas are agile and smart, and so put it to the right things where you can infuse energy and build sportsmanship and it is very natural for the Naga physique to concentrate in any field of sports and do excellent work”, he added.

The three-day volleyball tournament was organised by Japukong Youth Organisation. Trinity club defeated Elite Spikers and got third place.

Meanwhile, individual prizes were awarded to best setter- Menuoselie Hojha(Trinity Kohima); best spiker- Imliakum (Changtongya Volleyball Association); and Player of the tournament- Imlichuba(MH-10).
