The 28th Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship (NSTC) commenced today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
A total of 155 players, 115 boys and 40 girls, from seven districts are taking part in the tournament which will have 101 fights.
The players, divided into three categories including sub-junior, junior and senior, will vie for the title in their respective categories.The participating districts are Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Mon, Peren, Kiphire and Longleng.
Talking to Eastern Mirror on the sidelines of the ongoing tournament, General Secretary of Nagaland Taekwondo Association, Lhouliebei-o Khezhie said the top three winners in all the respective categories will be awarded with certificates and medals, however, that only the gold medalist of every respective category will represent the State at the national level.
The nation championship for sub-junior category is scheduled in the month of September at Hyderabad, whereas for the juniors, the championship would be held in the month of October at Vishakhapatnam. The senior national championship is scheduled in the month of November at Punjab.
