[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n an effort to become the most consecutive pinky chin ups in the Guiness World Records (GWR) history, a 26-year-old Manipuri youth pulled up his 51 kg body weight with only his two little fingers which is said to be the weakest parts of the humans.
Former silver medalist weightlifter Maibam Itomba Meitei made his attempt by pulling up 16 times in just 30 seconds to show the world that he has the strongest little fingers in front of experts in diverse fields including president of All Manipur Bar Association Kh Mani, Director Subhas Basumatary of Sports Authority of India (SAI) North Eastern Region Centre (NERC) and Technical Director N Binod of NIC at the crowded SAI complex at Takyelpat in Imphal town on Saturday afternoon.
Interestingly Itomba’s previous record was 20 pull ups in 30 seconds.“So far no one has ever claimed such achievement (in most consecutive pinky chin ups category) in the world,” says O Joychandra Singh of Lakhsh Pioneer committee Naoremthong, Imphal which organised the day’s event in association Brilliant Club Uripok Naoremthong. “As per the GWR guidelines, we’ll be submitting the necessary documents including the audio-visual evidences along with the newspaper clipping etc for setting a record in history.”
Itomba, the youngest among a sibling of six, speaking to this reporter after his successful attempt said, “I’ve been practicing for the attempt since the past six years as I always love to do something interesting and exceptional.”
Itomba is the youngest son of Churamani and Chandrasakhi Devi, a resident of Uripok Naoremthong Samushang Lairembi Leirak in Imphal.
Director in charge Subhas Basumatary of SAI NERC said we’re proud of having him in such a tiny state which produces many talents.
The tallest topiary (Samban-Lei Sekpil in local tongue) in the world, which earned an entry into Guinness Book of World Records in 1999 and became the second entry from the state after the game of Polo, which originated in the state, grows in Manipur.
