Demand retrospective benefits, pay parity and arrears as per court order
DIMAPUR — The ‘RMSA 2016 Graduate Teachers’ batch has served a seven-day ultimatum to the department of School Education (DoSE) seeking immediate implementation of the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court’s order granting them retrospective service benefits, pay parity, and arrears from their initial appointment in 2016.
In a representation submitted to the principal director of School Education, the teachers recalled that the High Court, in its March 16, 2022, judgement, had directed the state to extend all benefits under the 7th Central Pay Commission to the RMSA teachers from the date of appointment.
The ruling, challenged by the state in the Supreme Court, was upheld when the apex court dismissed the appeal on May 20, 2025.
“Despite this, the state government has delayed implementation. This continued non-compliance with judicial orders not only amounts to contempt of court but also reflects an absolute disregard for the dignity and rights of teachers who have faithfully served the state for nearly a decade,” the representation read.
The teachers warned that if the demands were not met within the deadline, it would resort to democratic agitation, including peaceful protests, media campaigns, and non-cooperation with departmental activities.
