DIMAPUR — In a tragic accident, two people were killed when the vehicle (Sumo Tata) in which they were traveling was smashed by a truck after it turned turtle, on Monday night at Burma Camp near Dhansiri Bridge, Dimapur.

According to Dimapur Police, both the victims, identified as Vikivi H Awomi, 27 years, son of Hokhai Awomi (the driver of the Sumo Tata) and Peaka Awomi, 23 years, son of late Kaito Awomi, died on the spot.

The accident took place around 8.30 pm.

As per the police, the truck (NL01G-1960), loaded with potatoes, was proceeding towards Imphal while the Sumo Tata (AS01T-3669) was coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the truck who fled from the spot after the mishap, is still absconding, police informed.

“In this connection, a case has been registered under relevant provision of law and investigation is ongoing,” police said.

It was informed that the bodies of the two deceased were handed over to their families after completion of formalities.
