1st Open Basketball C’ship begins

The 1st Open Basketball Championship organised by Quakers Group Kohima in memory of Lt. Neiphrülie Linyü under the theme ‘Brotherhood through sports” commenced at Kohima Local Ground this morning.
Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) general secretary, John Kath said youngsters occupy the front seat in all the fields and therefore they should always take the opportunity to move ahead.
Expressing that the present world in of science and technology advancement, he called upon the youths to be at par with the fast changing world. He however stressed on the need to also uphold once tradition and culture so that one does not lost his/her identity.Lauding the organizers for holding the tournament, he called upon the 18 teams participating in the tournament to showcase their talent and also maintain discipline and sportsmanship spirit.
Quakers Group president Victor Yhome delivered the key note address and also tendered the welcome address. Vikuo Phewhuo administered oath to the participating teams.
The champions of the tourney will receive cash award of Rs. 30,000 with running trophy and citations while runners-up will receive Rs. 20,000 with running trophy and citations. Individual awards have also been earmarked.
The tournament will conclude on April 4.
