DIMAPUR — The department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) organised the inaugural edition of the Lt. Thsanphu Memorial Volleyball Tournament from January 16 to the 17th, in collaboration with the Yimkhiung Sports Association (YSA) during the Tsüngkamnyo-cum-Mini-hornbill Festival.

At the inaugural programme, Pastor Pintsu of Y Anner Baptist Church pronounced the invocation while Shahoto, President of YSA, delivered the welcome and keynote address. Kethosituo, Director of YRS, and S Keoshu Yimchunger, Advisor for YRS, also spoke at the event, while Obed Quinker, Chairman of NBHM and son of the late P Thsanphu, paid tribute to his father, an update stated.

A minute of silence and prayer was also observed to honour Lt. Thsanphu, which was initiated by Khalenmew Yimkhiung, Secretary YSA.

The tournament, which featured 22 teams, was declared open by Kekongchim, the State Information Commissioner.

Chessore Village won the championship title and received a cash prize of INR 50,000, as well as a trophy and certificate, while Frontier Legends Pungrunger received INR 30,000, a trophy, and a certificate for the first runners-up position. Two semi-finalists were awarded INR 10,000 each.

The best disciplined teams — Hühdanger and Shungkiu — were awarded cash prizes of INR 5,000 each, donated by Kekongchim, while Shehoto of Kiussor village was named best player of the tournament, according to the update.

Championship prizes were sponsored by the department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, it added.
