Diphu, Dec. 11 (EMN): The 1st Hills State Demand Council (HSDC) general conference concluded on Dec. 11 Mon. at the Joysing Doloi auditorium.
After a strong debate the two-day conference concluded after adopting a number of resolutions.
As told by the outgoing general secretary in-charge of research and documentation Dharamsing Teron, the major resolution adopted was in ‘reviving Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) from Hills State Demand Council (HSDC).’
All the delegates attending the conference after taking up the long debate and discussion, the house resolved to dissolve the present HSDC and revive the former movement platform ASDC, under which banner the autonomous state movement was launched in 1986.
A movement platform ASDC was launched for taking up autonomous state movement in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in 1986, which later was a registered regional political party. But unfortunately because of ideological differences between ASDC and CPI (ML), it split in the year 2001.
The revived ASDC will take the symbol used earlier.
Dharamsing Teron said naming the party is a not a big thing, but movement spirit should regain and by reviving the ASDC, fresh movement for attaining statehood will be started.
The house also welcomed the Naga framework agreement as peace will return in Nagaland after a long armed struggle, but it also mentioned that the signatories of the Naga framework agreement of NSCN (IM) should take into consideration that the territory of both Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao should not be disturbed.
The extension of the area of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) is vehemently opposed and demands the displaced people belonging to indigenous tribes like Karbis and others to provide sustainable alternatives to protect the eco-system of the park.
On NRC updation, Teron said it should not harass anyone and that the criteria of claims should be relaxed. The house also criticized the KAAC authority for surrendering more autonomy as per MoU agreement in the present KAAC and urged for publication of white paper in this regard. The ASDC will be committed to empowerment of women and youths, Teron informed.
Apart from the resolutions made available to Eastern Mirror correspondent, Teron also questioned the BJP and Congress parties whether they have any written document on granting statehood for the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. He questioned the BJP if they really have the small state agenda while commenting that since the BJP and Congress does not have the statehood agenda they are just misleading the masses by going to New Delhi to hold dharna on statehood issue.
The house has agreed to form the revived ASDC with 47 members. The 41 members were selected on consensus. Election to filled up for six more members to the central committee is held for which counting is on. The various posts will be distributed in a while after counting of votes, general secretary in-charge publicity informed.
