DIMAPUR — The 19th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting was held at KVK Phek, Porba, on Monday with Dr. Girish Patil S, director of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun, Medziphema, and the chairman of SAC, presiding over the meeting.

In his introductory remarks, Girish elaborated on the objectives and role of KVK. He emphasised the importance of undertaking climate-resilient programmes and collaborating with line departments, according to an update.

Dr. A K Mohanty, director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Umiam, participated virtually and recommended focusing on technology in research mode, along with executing documentation and validation.

Dr. H Kalita, head of ICAR Research Complex, Medziphema, spoke about the importance of livelihood, nutrition, the environment, economic security, and sustainability, while Dr. N Haque, principal scientist, emphasised the importance of crop rotation with legumes in maintaining soil fertility status.

Dr. T Esther, chief technology officer, Soil Science, presented the 2023 annual report, while Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and head, presented the 2024 annual action plan.

During the interactive session, SAC members made a number of recommendations for link research development for the benefit of the farming community. 

The meeting was attended by bank officials, district officials from the agriculture and allied departments, progressive farmers, representatives from NGOs, and staff of KVK Phek.
