18 in fray for two LS seats in Manipur

IMPHAL, March 29

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] total of 18 candidates are in the fray in Manipur’s two parliamentary seats- Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency and Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha elections 2014.
No candidates have withdrawn on the last day of withdrawal of the nomination papers for the inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency (valley districts) on Saturday.As a result, all the eight candidates, including sitting Congress MP Dr Thokchom Meinya, will be in the fray for the Inner Manipur seat for which the polling will be held on April 17.
The other candidates in the constituency include Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dr R K Ranjan,C Communist Party of India Dr M Nara, All India Trinamool Congress(AITC) candidate S Manaobi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Dr Th Ibomcha, Jay Mahabharata candidate Oinam Jotin, Manipur Democratic People’s Front G Tonsansa and Independent candidate Indira Oinam .
Earlier, a total of 10 candidates, including the sitting Congress MP Thangso Baite, have already cleared the scrutiny. Besides, none of them have withdrawn their nominations from Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat which is going to polls on April 9.
The other candidates in the fray include Khamchinpau Gangte of AAP, Lalamoi alias Momoi Gangte of communist party of India (Marxist), Independent candidate Amarson Samkhir, BJP candidate Prof Gangmumei Kamei (Retd), Nationalist Congress Party candidate Chungkhokai Doungel, Independent candidate Mani Charenamei, AITC candidate Ms Kim Gangte, Lien Gangte of Janata Dal(U) and Soro Lorho of Naga People’s Front.
A media centre has been opened at mini secretariat after members of the Ukhrul District Journalist Association met and apprised the Autonomous District Council Diphu Gangmei, who is also the chairman of the District Media Certification and Monitoring Cell.
On the other hand, around 10 people have been pulled up for verification during a combing operation by the police at Kshetrigao area in Manipur’s Imphal East district today.The operation was conducted in view of the Lok Sabha polls and it was headed by police commandoes.
