17,736 cases registered in Manipur: Deputy CM

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today informed the assembly that altogether 17,736 cases (including 4136 cases in 2014 alone) have been registered, 1324 cases have been charge sheeted while 9679 cases have been returned in the files in Manipur from 2011-2014.
Gaikhangam who hold the home affairs portfolio made this statement while replying to a question raise by opposition Trinamool Congress MLA Kh Joykishan on whether there is any instances of the police not taking up any action even though one FIR has already been filed in the day’s question and answer session.Gaikhangam said a total of 369 cases were charge sheet-ed and 295 cases returned in the files out of 4136 registered cases in 2014 while 3930 cases registered, 276 charge sheet-ed and 2509 return in files in 2013.
Similarly 4436 cases registered in 2011 against 5234 in 2012 while 262 charge sheet-ed in 2011 against 416 in 2012, he added.
Later presenting an official statement over yesterday’s bomb explosion in Imphal,
Deputy Chief Minister called upon the people of the state to unite and stop the “act of terrorism” in the region.
Gaikhangam who holds the home affairs portfolio while giving a statement over Sunday’s bomb blast at Khoyathong in Imphal as the incident occurred while the assembly is on.
On Sunday morning, three non-local labourers-Ram Kishan(60),Shiv Yadav(35) and Lalan(350 were killed while four other labourers including a Nagaland state transport bus conductor( L Lotha) were injured when a powerful IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was exploded at the Khoyathong bus parking in Imphal under Imphal police station.The three other injured persons are Rajkumar(31),Lorik and Surinder(20).
Most of the deceased and injured non-locals hails from Uttar Pradesh but staying in the rented houses at Khoyathong,Imphal.
“The act which targets the weaker section shows the sign of loosing their objectives and frustration of the concerned parties,” says Gaikhangam responding to the Thangmeiband constituency MLA Kh Joykishan’s demand for a clarification over the incident during the day’s zero hour.
“Initial report said remote controlled device was used in the incident,” home minister said while reading out the official report of the incident. “Though no organizations claimed the responsibility for the incident, we suspect hands of one of valley based underground organizations behind the incident.”
Stating that the Imphal Police station has registered as case and an investigation underway, Gaikhangam in his 10 minute deliberation, also admitted that the government will not spare those involved in the incident. “We will deal it according to the law of the land”, he informed.
But so far there is no report of arresting any suspects behind Sunday’s incident
