Dimapur, Oct. 21 (EMN): Personnel of the 173 battalion CRPF, stationed at Dimapur Airfield, observed the ‘Police Commemoration Day’ on October 21.

Addressing the jawans, its commandant Vishnu Gautam recalled the valour and courageous police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, an update from the battalion stated. He further recalled the supreme sacrifices by CRPF men while defending the borders on October 21, 1959, against the Chinese army aggression at Hot springs in Ladakh, where a small CRPF patrol party was ambushed and heavily outnumbered by the Chinese army. He informed that in the ensuing battle, 10 CRPF men made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Vishnu Gautam further encouraged every personnel to inculcate and follow their acts of bravery so that they could inspire future generations.

In order to commemorate the exceptional act of valour by the men of CRPF, October 21 is observed as ‘Police Commemoration Day' across the country, the statement added.

Report further stated that all ranks and files of the unit attended the programme.
