15th Imchaba Memorial open volleyball trophy underway

The much-awaited 15th edition of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2022, organised by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), got underway at Multi-Purpose sports complex, Mokokchung, on Tuesday 20.

The trophy was kicked off by N Jamonger Ao, assistant director, Food & Civil Supplies, Mokokchung, as the inaugural patron.

The patron said events such as Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy have kept Mokokchung alive and vibrant while congratulating the MDVA for organising such a prestigious trophy.

He encouraged players from the 18 participating teams to seize the moment, to shine and enjoy their time and to stay proactive in all fields, be it social or sports activities.

He also asserted that Mokokchung district is the factory of volleyball players in Nagaland.

Earlier, Lakhi Longkumer, member, organizing committee gave the welcome address while the oath taking ceremony was initiated by Imkongsanen, a player from the Changtongya Volleyball Association, the defending champions.

In this year’s edition 18 teams from VK town, Tuensang, Kohima and Mokokchung will be vying for the coveted title.

In the first match, Kumlong Sporting Association B beat Shipu Sporting Club, Sungkomen, in straight sets (25-19; 25-17). In the second match, Tuensang Volleyball Association overcame Friends United Chakpa in three sets (25-27; 25-16; 25-16).

In the third match which was a thriller, Volleyball for Peace Longsa B beat Waromong Sports Association Jangjanglong Club (23-25; 25-17; 25-17). In the fourth match, the top contender for the trophy, MH 10 Kohima had an easy win against Sumedem Club (25-11; 25-19).
