15 persons penalised for selling tobacco products in Wokha

NTCP and COTPA flying squad members with the seized items at Wokha town on Friday.

Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): Fifteen persons were penalised under COTPA Act, for selling various tobacco products in and around schools and colleges in Wokha town on Friday.

An update from DIPR informed that under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act (COTPA) flying squad consisting of district administration, police, excise, Lotha Students’ Union, DBs and women police and members from the NTCP led by District Nodal Officer Dr. Daisy conducted checking of tobacco products in and around the schools and colleges.

The team -- divided into four groups -- carried out checking in all the institutional areas within Wokha town and seized various tobacco products.

Dr. Daisy informed that similar raids will be carried out frequently. She also thanked all the members for the support extended in carrying out the exercise.

The seized products were destroyed on the same day in presence of all the flying squad members.
