14 individuals conferred B&K Memorial Awards

The 3rd annual Bendangnungsang Longkumer and Khriesavizo Metha (B&K) Memorial Award ceremony cum 4th death anniversary candle light vigil was held at Diphupar village gate, Dimapur, on January 31. The programme was organised by Diphupar Naga Students’ Union.

On the occasion, the B&K Memorial Awards were given to 14 individuals and organisations under 10 categories in recognition of their excellence and service rendered towards the society. The B&K Memorial Awards was initiated in memory of two youth, who had laid down their lives during the ULB imbroglio on January 31, 2017.

During the programme, Temsusenla Kichu was conferred promoter award, Vishu Rita Krocha for literature, Lichan Humtsoe for entrepreneur, Testseo Sisters for music, Bambi Kevichusa for art, Kekhriesilie Rio for young achiever, NK Naga for special mentioned award, Better Dimapur for green award, Menuodilhou Maurice Usou for sports, and HSLC topper 2020 Abhi Chakraborty, HSSLC arts topper 2020 Chumliba R and HSSLC commerce topper 2020 Ichha Upadhyay.

Speaking on the occasion DNSU tribunal general, N Pitovi Achumi, explained about the award and stated that the heroic scarifies and contribution of Bendangnungsang Longkumer and Khriesavizo Metha has to be known for the generations of Nagas to come.

Achumi informed that B&K Memorial Award is a humble venture of DNSU to positively acknowledge those personalities and organisations who have contributed in various fields.

The head GB of the village, in his brief remarks, said that Bendangnungsang Longkumer and Khriesavizo Metha were remembered as they died doing something for the Naga society.
Speaking on behalf of the families, aunty of Khriesavizo Metha said that

DNSU has created a crown of beauty from the ashes through the awards and hoped that the union would continue the tradition and inspire others. She described late Metha as one of her students who was fond of football and a member of different choir groups.

Brother of Bendangnungsang, in his remarks expressed his gratitude to the union for keeping the fire alive, while at the same time advocated the need of forgiveness as a follower of Jesus Christ.

The recipients of this year’s awards, although were not present physically, sent their pre-recorded video messages which were played during the
ceremony.
