12th Manipur Legislative Assembly enters day-10

Imphal, Aug. 4 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday informed the House that National Medical Commission has given positive nod for Churachandpur Medical College, the first medical college in a hill district to start functioning with 100 MBBS seats from this year’s academic session and added that the commission has asked the state government to submit necessary documents. Biren Singh said this on the 10th day of the ongoing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Singh while replying to a calling attention raised by Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh (Sugnu) regarding the custodial death of one goldsmith from Sagolband Kangabam Leikai on May 2 said that the state government had assured a job to the next of kin of the deceased on humanitarian ground and continued that job appointment order would be given after taking a cabinet decision by the end of this month.

Works and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, while replying to the starred questions raised by MLA Paolienlal Haokip(Saikot) informed the house that the state government has started to process the construction of multi-storey government quarters and buildings at different locations to overcome the shortage of accommodation facility which is to be provided to elected Members of the Assembly and government employees.

In reply to a query raised by Naga People’s Front MLA Ram Muivah(Ukhrul), regarding the dilapidated condition of Youth Hostel building, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) in Ukhrul, the Minister informed that most of the youth hostels are maintained by NYK. While giving his assurance on renovating the building, he said NYK has already sent proposals and subsequent reminders to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport for major repairs of the same.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, while answering to a question raised by MLA K Ranjit Singh, said that the central government has disbursed fund amounting to INR 756.49 crore for MGNREGS for the year 2022-23 on June 23, 2022.

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Nemai informed the house that the department had provided assistance to the victims of flood occurred in 2017 in Lilong assembly constituency. He continued that 195 victims had already received assistance while 3,198 are yet to receive the same. Minister Awangbow was replying to a starred question by the JD(U) MLA Md Abdul Nasir(Lilong).

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, while replying to questions by NPF MLA Ram Muivah stated that the work agency for the construction of Community Health Centre at Nongada (Napet Palli) is Manipur Development Society and that the overall physical progress is 90%. He further informed that 1.25 acres of land for the same was donated by local people while purchase of another piece of land measuring 0.75 acre is under process.

Replying to a question by Thangmeiband MLA Joykisan Singh, Public Health Engineering Department minister L Susindro Meitei informed the house that the number of water supply projects/schemes constructed in Imphal West District is 87. Out of which 26 have been completed and 61 are ongoing.
