12 senior BJP Mokokchung functionaries join Congress party

MOKOKCHUNG — In a new political development, 12 BJP senior functionaries from Mokokchung district have joined the Congress party in the presence of Lok Sabha MP and NPCC president, S Supongmeren Jamir and DCC officials on Saturday.

The 12 senior functionaries of the BJP Mokokchung district include vice president L Yanger Lemtur, treasurer Ojen Jamir, secretary Tiarenla, mahila president Meyisangla, kisan president Tiayanger, mahila vice president Arenla and Imlikokla, mahila executive.

The five other BJP members are senior office bearers from 25 Mongya and 23 Impur assembly seats.

In a statement, the former BJP members declared, “We, the following former members of the BJP functionaries under Mokokchung district, have resolved to resign from both active and primary membership. We have unanimously resolved to join the Indian National Congress on 2nd August 2024, under the dynamic leadership of Watimongba Aier, president DCC.”

During the induction ceremony held at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office, The NPCC president welcomed the new members, terming the addition of 12 BJP members to the Congress party as a significant milestone.

Jamir also challenged the party workers to reactivate the Congress’s humble endeavors to come back to power in 2028 by activating Congress at the grass root level.

“If you can not commit yourselves to take the huge mantle of responsibility and tasks, then you replace a better and capable person in your position. That is what we are committed to do if we fail our task,” he said.

He also urged the Congress workers to start surveying for prospective candidates in each constituency to prepare for the 2028 assembly election.

“Focus on the east, the Congress’ wind should blow from the east (eastern Nagaland areas), if you wait for the wind from Kohima we will miss our target once again,” he said.

Jamir also assured that as an MP and NPCC president, he will visit each and every constituency. Likewise, he directed the DCC officials to do the same.

“If we rest today, good days will be wasted like yesterday without MLAs for the next five years,” he said, adding, “We need MLAs; therefore, we should work together in unity.”

He further asserted that with the induction of the 12 senior BJP members into the Congress party, the political scenario of Mokokchung district will take on a whole new dimension.

Moa Imchen, NPCC general secretary and Mokokchung in charge, L Yanger Lemtur, former VP of BJP Mokokchung district and Arenla, former VP (women wing) of BJP Mokokchung district, also spoke on the occasion.
