One person died and several others were injured when a bus carrying security and polling personnel met with an accident in Wokha district on Sunday.
The bus was on its way to Sungro village under 39 Sanis AC on election duty when it met with the accident near Thillong Bridge, Doyang, a statement from the office of the deputy commissioner of Wokha and district election officer said.
It went on to state that the cause of the accident was suspected to be ‘mechanical failure’.
The driver of the bus was reported to be dead, while 12 persons were grievously injured.
It said the injured were shifted to District Hospital Wokha and arrangements for air evacuation were being made.
It went on to state that a new team of polling personnel along with polling materials from the reserve polling personnel had been dispatched from the Wokha headquarters and the EVM machines, if required, would be replaced from the reserve.
