Mokokchung, September 20: The 11th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2016 got underway at the Multipurpose Sports Complex here on Tuesday with the defending champions Adventure Club Changtongya defeating Ultimate Club Yimjenkimong in the inaugural match.
Inaugurating the tournament as the Chief Guest, Senior Superintendent of Police Mokokchung, Aotemsu in his address congratulated the MDVA for successfully organizing the tournament for the past many years and expressed hope that the tourney’s legacy will continue o inspire many upcoming sport aspirants.Dwelling on the inception of volleyball, he said that it is the second most played sports in the world because of its versatility to mould and shape youths in many aspects.
The chief guest challenged the sportspersons that their conduct on court will reflect the general personality off the court.
Altogether 15 teams are participating in the ongoing tourney which is considered as one of the biggest volleyball trophy in Nagaland. This year’s champion will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 70000 with trophy and the first runner-up will recieve a cash amount of Rs. 50000. While the second and third runner-ups will collect a cash amount of Rs. 25000 and 15000 respectively. Individual prizes will be given to the best Spiker, best Setter and Player of the tournament.
