Imphal, Sep. 4 (EMN):
In an effort to meet the demands of the oxygen at different government and private hospitals and health care centres, 11 out of 27 oxygen plants are now operational in Manipur, as informed by Additional Director (Medical care), Dr. Lalthari Hmar on Friday.

Those oxygen plants include seven PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen plants and one largest Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) plant in the Northeast. Out of the total 27 oxygen plants, 17 are sanctioned under PM care, six under Tribal Affairs and Hills department while two are under the state Health department.

Informing that the remaining Oxygen plants in the remaining districts are expected to be inaugurated and functional by Sep. 10, Dr. Lalthari said, “Now all the civil works are completed. The equipment is also on the way for installation”.

Regarding the delay in setting up of the plants, she said that the transportation of the machinery to different destinations in the state was one of the main reasons. Once the on-going development process of the oxygen plants are in operation, there will be adequate oxygen supply in the state, she  stated.

Meanwhile the state reported four Covid-19 deaths from — Imphal East (two), Imphal West (one) and Ukhrul (one) districts in the last 24 hours — taking the state’s death toll to 1,796, official sources said.

The state also reported 303 new Covid-19 cases, when 3,349 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally increased to 1,15,077 with 3,278 active cases.

On the other hand, with 288 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases in Manipur reached 1,10,003. Thus, the state’s recovery rate increased to 95.59 %.

Till date 12,25,142 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state, the source said.

Furthermore, Manipur police on Saturday detained 55 persons in the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 14,300 was also collected as fine.

As per latest official reports, the state has so far given 15,54,103 doses of Covid vaccines including 11,92,491 first and 3,61,612 second doses to the residents.
