Imphal, Feb. 2 (EMN): The Indian Science Congress(ISC) Association held three meetings including executive committee meeting of 105th ISC, council meeting of ISC, and meeting of the sectional presidents and local sectional secretaries, respectively at the Court Hall of Manipur University in Imphal on Feb. 2 Fri.
The meetings which were hosted by Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey of Manipur University minutely discussed the arrangement status of 105th ISC at Manipur University to be held from March 16 till the 20th and other various development works which are being carried out with regards to upcoming ISC.
The 105th ISC was earlier scheduled at Osmania University, Hyderabad in Jan. but had to move out because of inability to host 105th ISC. This is the first time the 106 years old ISC, the largest congregation of scientists in India had to postpone at the last minute. Prof Pandey expressed his willingness to host such a mega event at Manipur University.
In the day’s meeting of the executive committee of 105th ISC, it was resolved that the Osmania University, Hyderabad, should refund the registration fees paid by the delegates, students, and other participants immediately.
The last date of registration by willing participants has been extended till March 5 which was earlier fixed till Feb. 15.
The committee also passed a landmark resolution for the first time that those who are eligible for train fare have been sanctioned Air fare in place of train fare for attending the science congress session in Manipur University. This resolution was made to encourage more participation in view of the fact that Manipur is not well connected by train and much time will be required to arrive in Manipur by Train. The Air fare is sanctioned to ISCA awardees, Science Communicators, and students participating in the Science Model Competitions.
In the Council’s Meeting, the local organisation secretary Prof Arun Kumar of MU’s earth science department briefed the members attending about the arrangements being made for organising the 105th ISC with regards to infrastructural facilities, transport, communication, logistics, accommodation, and other amenities for VVIPs, council members, scientists, awardees, students and delegates.
Meeting of the fourteen member Sectional Presidents with Local Sectional Secretaries discussed about the venues, sectional programmes and other infrastructural facilities. Later, the Sectional Presidents visited the proposed venues along with the Local Sectional Secretaries for making arrangement to conduct the sectional programmes from March 16-20, 2018 at Manipur University.
