Kohima, Sep. 22 (EMN): Kohima police have penalised as many as 1031 people for not wearing face mask in public places, as mentioned in the government’s order
As a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the state government had earlier issued a directive informing that people found not wearing mask would be penalised with a fine of INR 200 every time the offence is committed.
A police officer informed Eastern Mirror that they were enforcing the directive as per the standing order of the government.
“We are only following the government order, otherwise we don’t want to harass the public,” he said.
It was learnt that the police had been complying with the order from deputy commissioner of Kohima, following the chief secretary’s directive to enforce the directive to ensure wearing of facemask in public places, penalise the defaulters and submit the report.
It was also informed that the fines collected from violators will go to the state exchequer.
