NO PLAN TO CREATE NEW STATE: RIJIJU

Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 26

Even as the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) is all set to enforce the 1000-hour Karbi Anglong district bandh from 5 am of October 27 demanding the creation of an Autonomous State, Union minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has reportedly said there is no plan to create any new state either full-fledged or autonomous state by the BJP-led NDA government at the moment.
A well placed source here disclosed to Eastern Mirror this evening that Rijiju snubbed the Hill State Democratic Party (HSDP) over the demand for the creation of a separate State when the latter had met the Union minister a few days ago. “Our government has no plan to create a new State or new autonomous State,” the source said quoting the Union minister.
HSDP and the Karbi Anglong district unit of the Congress have been demanding the creation of a separate state while JACAS is demanding the creation of an autonomous State.
Attempts to contact JACAS convener Bijoy Teron proved futile by this daily to update the latest development regarding the issue. However, it was learnt that the Tarun Gogoi government has been trying its best to pacify JACAS to reconsider its decision of going ahead with the bandh.
Sources said feelers sent by the Assam government have not been entertained by JACAS. A separate source, however, said JACAS leaders have gone into hiding as the police are after them.
Meanwhile, the 1000-hour JACAS bandh is bound to seriously impact the states of Nagaland and Manipur. There has already been panic buying of essential commodities by people since Saturday in Dimapur and Kohima.
