1 shot dead in Kohima; NYO condemns

KOHIMA, JANUARY 20

A non-local businessman was shot dead by unknown gunman in Naga Bazaar colony, Kohima town tonight.
The victim identified as Helal Uddin, running a small grocery shop within the colony, was shot from close range on the abdomen inside his shop at around 6.30 pm, police said. He was rushed to the Naga Hospital but declared brought dead by the doctor.A case has been registered and manhunt on to nab the culprit, police added.
Meanwhile, the Naga Bazaar Youth Organisaiton (NYO) expressed anguished over the killing of Helal Uddin and condemned the highhandedness of the culprits in the strongest terms.
“Such gruesome murder of a mere businessman is unacceptable in a civilized society and condemnable by one and all,” stated a release issued by NYO president Teisovituo Bio and NYO action committee convenor Zekuseto Natso.
They said the recurrence of such incident within the colony has alerted the youths and from now the youths will be vigilant to take action against any anti-social elements loitering within the colony. Any individual or groups found disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the colony shall be dealt with severely by the NYO, they warned.
The NYO has also called upon all the Naga political groups to identify if the culprit(s) are their cadres and hand them over to the law enforcing agency.
They also urged upon the law enforcing agency to investigate the matter seriously and bring the culprits to book at the earliest.
Further, the NYO conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members at this hour of grief and sorrow.
