Dimapur, Jan. 6: The Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) on Friday stated that it was ‘extremely taken aback by the adamant deportment’ of the state government in going ahead with the decision to hold ULB elections with 33% seat reservation for women.

In a press release, the ZPO stated: “The unheeded appeals, ultimate exercise of boycott, preventing of nomination and all means of sacrifices of the tribal organisations are not of any hilarity that the state government should be shielding off with such insensitivity.
“It is unprecedented and gravely unfortunate that such stage is already set for a lopsided ULBs election in the state against the wishes of the people of Nagaland if it is to be involved and being participated only by the constituent political parties of the DAN government.”

Over the incongruity of the Municipal Act with Naga customary law and practice, it is where the state government of Nagaland advisably would have played its trump card under provision of Article 371(a) of the Constitution of India, it added.
