Kohima, Nov. 23 (EMN): Union Baptist Church (UBC) in Kohima conducted a programme ‘global youth leadership summit’ on Saturday under the aegis of the Global Leadership Network.

The sessions were screened on HD video with a live facilitation. The summit speakers were Craig Groeschel, co-founder and senior pastor at Life Church; Bear Grylls, adventurer, writer, TV host; Liz Bohannon, co-founder and co-CEO of Sseko Designs; DeVon Franklin, producer, author, speaker, CEO of Franklin Entertainment; Jason Dorsey, speaker; and Jia Jiang, best-selling author, blogger and entrepreneur.

Rev. Dr. Rachülie Vihienuo, pastor at UBC and director of the summit said, “This is the first time in Kohima to have a summit purely based for the youths.” He expressed optimism that everyone would leave from the event inspired, and challenged to do something. He said everyone can be an influence.

Speaking to media personnel, a facilitator at the summit Visato Yhoshü informed that the event first started at Willow Creek Community Church in the United States in 1992 as a private church program to build leadership. It slowly grew to be a global summit.

Yhoshii said 20 states in India are hosting the same summit and Nagaland is among them. Youths in the capital town are also getting the exposure to global summit experiences.

After every session, the facilitator added, a time for reflection and discussions were conducted so that the participants would be encouraged to put into practice what they had learned.

Also, Megozeno Savino, coordinator of the summit said 250 youths from different churches attended the summit. She said three from Mokochung and one from Kiphire joined youths in the town, cutting across denominational lines.

“Each of the participants in this summit is a prospective leader and we are very happy to see the number of people who turned up,” Savino said.

Participants at the summit spoke about their experiences and expressed happiness in being part of the global youth leadership summit. They expressed confidence that they would be able to practically apply what they had learned in the programme to impact the society.

Union Baptist Church has been organising the global leadership summit annually for the past five years. The global youth leadership summit 2019 is the sixth edition.

The organisers asserted that the church was adjudged and awarded the “Best Site for Excellence in Facilitation” in 2017 at the main Summit in Willow Creek, Illinois, USA.
