Dimapur, Jan. 6 (EMN): Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakhera has taken over charge as 20th Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) on January 5. The General Officer was commissioned into the Sikh LI Regiment on June 9, 1990, and later took command in Lower Assam.
According to a defense release, he is a post graduate from Defense Services Staff College, Wellington. The General Officer also attended a higher defense management course and prestigious national defense college course at Royal College of Defense Studies in London (UK). He commanded an Infantry Brigade in Sriganganagar before he moved to 4 Corps headquarters as Brig Q.
Report also stated that the General Officer has immense operational experience in planning and conduct of counter terrorist operations in J&K and Assam including a previous tenure prior to the ceasefire time in Nagaland. He added that the General Officer is a highly decorated officer and has to his credit a Sena Medal, Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and two GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.
