The traffic authorities of Dimapur have issued new regulations for vehicular movement within the Dimapur proper areas. The Dimapur Traffic Police issued a notice on Tuesday listing out restrictions, roundabouts, alternatives, and parking facilities.
No entry timings of heavy vehicles into Dimapur from Chumukedima check gate, Dellai check gate and Newfield check gate will apply between 9:00 Am to 6:00 PM. Heavy vehicles have been prohibited from plying within the city limits during said restricted periods. The new regulations will come into effect from May 5.
Also, the Dimapur Traffic Police have marked zebra crossings at the Dhobinalla Junction, Holy Cross Junction and Deluxe Point Junction to ensure safety of pedestrians.
“All vehicles and two wheelers at (the) halt or (had been) halted in the traffic junctions are not to cross the white-line marker before the zebra crossings. Drivers violating the safety measures will be penalized,” the police stated in the notice. However, the police did not say how the pedestrians could cross if passage during traffic rush were not regulated. For parking, the police said that slots along the Nyamo Lotha Road have been marked. “Parking will only be allowed in the assigned space. No double parking will be allowed. Vehicle owners are also directed to ensure that they park their vehicles in a manner that does not obstruct the free flow of traffic.”
Further, authorities of hospitals and ambulance operators are directed to ensure that sirens are not misused. Those found misusing them will be dealt with as per law, the traffic police added.
