This was stated in a tweet by Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister Nagaland and Chairman, Investment Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) on Tuesday following his meeting with TNCC.

Metha tweeted: “Very enlightening to meet friends and members of the Nagaland Chamber Choir. One of the senior and accomplished choirs of Nagaland, they will be representing the State & Country at the World Choir Games in Korea. They qualified on the basis of medal winning performances at the Asia Pacific Choir Games.”

He extended best wishes and prayers for their success.

The official said, ‘you are the ambassadors of Nagaland and the Naga people – we are all rooting for you.’

About 12th World Choir Games

It may be mentioned that, 12th World Choir Games is scheduled to be held from July 3 to the 13th at Gangneung/Gangwon, Republic of Korea.

With one-year delay, the World Choir Games returns to Korea this year: The city of Gangneung, located in the Gangwong province, is the second Korean city after Busan in 2002 to host the world’s largest international choir competition.

As mentioned on its official website, Gangwon-do is experienced in hosting major international events: In 2018 it was the venue of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which went down in history as the “Peace Games” due to the joint appearance of North and South Korean athletes. A perfect place for the unifying power of choral music to become an even more significant international symbol of peace.

Korea has a vibrant choral scene, which is highly valued in the country and received strong support from politics and community. The country regularly sends its choirs to participate in the World Choir Games – and often return with impressive success.

The host city of the 2023 World Choir Games, Gangneung, is known for its breathtaking location by the sea in front of fantastic mountain scenery. The Olympic Park and the Ice Arena were also venues for the 2018 Winter Olympics and are centrally located in the city. A unique opportunity to breathe real Olympic air here during the World Choir Games!

A promo in the website of the international event stated, “A perfect place for the unifying power of choral music to become an even more significant international symbol of peace.”

TNCC roadway to World Choir Games

According to records available, TNCC participated in the 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games and Grand Prix of the nation held in Colombo, Sri Lanka which saw a participation of 74 choirs from 17 countries participated out of which eight were from India. During the event, TNCC representing India competed in two categories viz Gospel/Spiritual category and Folklore Acapella category and won silver medals in both the categories at the Asia Pacific Championship.

In addition, TNCC also won Golden Diplomas securing direct entry to the 5th Asia pacific champion competition held in 2021.
