Dimapur, April 28 (EMN): A special handloom expo titled ‘Spring’ under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) was inaugurated by Vitsutho Nyuthe, additional director of Industries and Commerce, at Urban Haat, Dimapur, on Wednesday.
A 14-day expo is being organised by the department of Industries and Commerce and funded by the Ministry of Textiles, government of India, under Development Commissioner for Handlooms.
The production manager of Industries and Commerce, Kokeshe K Zhimomi, informed that a total of 30 stalls from Nagaland have been put up by following all the SOPs in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
He said that unlike the previous expo, weavers from other Northeast states could not participate in the expo due to the second wave of covid-19.
According to officials, the objective of the expos was to enable the weavers showcase their products and increase the handloom fabric production by ways of establishing market linkages, encourage innovation in design and techniques for improvement in design capabilities, diversification of product lines and value addition, better access domestic and export markets so that weavers get continuous employment and improve their living standards.
