Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Phek division, observed a week-long campaign on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” from July 1 to the 14. The campaign was organised by DWSM PHED Phek and sponsored by WSSO, PHED Kohima.
The department kicked off the campaign by organising tree plantation and cleanliness drive at water treatment plant, wherein more than 50 different tree saplings were planted around the water treatment area, an update from PHED Phek division stated.
It added that IEC materials on water quality monitoring and surveillance (WQM&S) with the message on the characteristic of good quality drinking water, environmental classification of water related infections as well as sampling guidelines and procedures were distributed at village level. It added that a video clip on the use of field testing kit (FTK) produced by PHED was shared widely through social media for public awareness. Besides, water testing was conducted on regular basis to enhance the knowledge on the usage of FTK and to ensure water quality.
It also stated that orientation programme on open defecation-free (ODF) plus was conducted with Swachhagrahis through virtual mode.
Swachhata Shramdhan-cleaning of traditional wells, ponds and drainage- was carried out extensively led by Swachhagrahis including Watsan members, council members, students and church leaders at village level. The department further inspected selected ODF villages to assure the ODF sustainability.
