NPR update: House-to-house enumeration exercise from Oct 1

The state government on Thursday announced that a house-to-house enumeration exercise to update the National Population Register in the state of Nagaland will begin from October 1, and end on October 31 next.
A press release from the Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar today informed that the exercise is “for collection of information relating to all persons who are residing within the jurisdiction of Local Registrar.” The state government has appointed the Deputy Commissioners as District Registrars of their respective districts and have delegated with the power to appoint “Charge Officers and Block Enumerators” in their respective districts to carry out the operation. It has also appointed K Libanthung Lotha, the Additional Secretary of Home Department, as the State Coordinator for this exercise.

“The updating of National Population Register (NPR) and seeding of Aadhar in the NPR database shall be carried out in pursuance to the sub-rule (4) of Rule 3 of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.
“Updating of National Population Register (NPR) and seeding of Aadhar number in the NPR is nationwide exercise to update the growth of population in the country which is an indicator for growth and development of the nation as a whole.”
The government has appealed the citizens to cooperate with the enumerators by providing accurate and unambiguous information “such as, name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, address etc. for those person(s) whose name are not found in the list or left out in the National Population Registration 2011 which includes new born for filling up new NPR Forms by the designated official/enumerator.”
It is also an opportunity for those person(s) whose information has been entered incorrectly during population enumeration in 2011 Census to rectify those incorrect information such as, incorrect name, date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, address etc, it stated.
“It is also a duty bound of the respondent to reveal the death of a member of the family or in cases where the whole of the family or some member(s) of the family have migrated out for deletion of those person(s) who have died or migrated out without any apprehension.”
