One youth in Kohima died from injuries he sustained from what the Kohima police on Thursday said was a “gang fight” between “two-parties” at Box-cutting area of the state capital. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old, Medosetuo Suohu, from Naga Hospital Colony, Kohima.
According to a Kohima police press statement on Thursday, nine people have been arrested “to ascertain the actual cause of the incident”, and they have been charged with murder. Narrating the incident, Kohima police stated that a report of “gang fight” was received at the South Police Station at around 8 pm on Wednesday last.
“On receipt of the information, the Police team rushed to the spot but by the time the Police team arrived at the spot, the two parties have already left the place. However while enquiry was on it was learnt that, one of the victim involved in the fight is admitted at Naga Hospital kohima. The police team proceeded to Naga Hospital and found the victim already declared dead by the medical officer of Naga Hospital, Kohima.”
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fight started when a group of five youths, including the victim, “had some misunderstanding” with two “boys” who, according to the police, were also at the park located above the Box-cutting area.
According to the police statement, the “two boys” called for reinforcement which promptly arrived in the form of seven other friends. “…and there was further altercation between the 2 groups and during the gang fight one of the 5 member group referred above reportedly received serious injuries on his head and later succumb to his injuries at NHAK.” An FIR was lodged at South PS Kohima after which the accused nine youths were arrested and further investigations are on.
