Mokokchung traders apprehend fake goods sellers

Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Tuesday caught three persons stated to be “with suspicious antecedents, roaming around Mokokchung district selling fake electronic goods and substandard household items.”

The MCCI issued a press release informing that its representatives had ‘caught hold’ of the three persons in the evening of May 27, “after some vigilant customers informed our genuine electronic goods sellers” about the trio’s whereabouts.

“We first received information about the suspicious movement of the fake goods sellers from Changtongya at around 10 am. Later, at around 2 pm, we received another information about the same group of fake goods sellers from Yaongyimti and Chakpa village areas. As the word about the dubious persons spread, concerned citizens and MCCI representatives were able to stop one of the two vehicles the fake goods sellers were travelling in somewhere near Akhoya village gate along NH2.

“A white Maruti Alto sped away while a white Maruti van halted when asked to stop. There were three occupants each in both vehicles. The three occupants of the Maruti van were identified as Rijul Ahmen, 21 years; Faheem Uddin, 21 years; and Bablu Ali, 22 years; all residents of Hiragaon in Amguri, Assam,” it stated.

The trio were in possession of fake Samsung LED TVs and other substandard electronic goods and three suitcases, according to the MCCI. “They were travelling without ILPs and duping the villagers by selling the fake and substandard goods without any sales permit from the area’s administration and without any GST challans.

“They were later handed over to the police personnel of Changtongya police station for further investigation. However, MCCI is concerned more about public safety and security threat posed by such dubious elements than the negative impact it causes to the organised market ecosystem. The integrity and character of the police personnel manning the inter-state check post at Tuli is also proved to be questionable as they were allowed to pass through the gate without ILP,” it stated.

The MCCI appealed to the community leaders, village elders and consumers in general to be vigilant and cautious of such dubious sellers and to inform the police.
