The problems and hardships faced by the hill people will never be solved if ‘selection’ continues instead of ‘election’ in the coming ADC polls of June 1. This was stated by JD (U) Manipur unit president M Tombi in a press meet held today.Speaking to media persons at the JD (U) office at Babupara, Imphal, M Tombi that continuous threats to the candidates contesting in this really are unfortunate and said that a severe threat has also come to one Khoibu candidate of the JD (U), contesting from a seat of Tengnoupal AC, to withdraw his candidature.
Even though the party is supposed to send out 11 candidates, only 6 candidates have been allowed to contest owing to the threats. The rest will contest as independent candidates. In such a sensitive situation, both the state government and Central government should keep a tight vigil to avoid any further unwanted incidents as one Congress worker has also been killed.
JD (U) had met with Home Minister and Deputy CM Gaikhangam to discuss about the threat to the JD (U) candidate and had submitted a report regarding this to him.
M Tombi further appealed all the voters of ADC election not to get influence by money power and muscle power, and to cast their votes to the deserving candidates who will work for the real welfare of the hill people.
