Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam Flagged-off a Youth Disaster Response Team, Manipur with Relief Materials for the Nepal Earthquake Victims. The brief and meaningful flag off function was held at the historic Kangla fort in Imphal today.Chief-de-Mission Kangjam Karnajeet led the 11 member Disaster Response Team.Before the flag off ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister who holds the home affairs portfolio also gave a short speech before the gathering. He expressed that those who help the victims of natural disasters would be blessed by the God. It is the best investment for all of us. He also wished the team a successful mission.Youth Disaster Response Team, was formed in 2013 by the Club 25 International,Manipur.A day after the quake on April 26 , the Youth Disaster Response Team started collecting donations from people of Manipur and the cash recieved from the public campaign were used for the relief materials for Nepal Earthquake victims.
It may be mentioned that a group of young Nepali community from Moreh and Imphal had already left for Kathmandualong with relief materials. The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) is planning for a week long donation programme to help the victims of Nepal quake in Churachandpur district.The rights body also appealed to the authorities of schools, colleges, churches, offices and organisations to contribute whatever they could for the cause.The programme which is scheduled to begin from May 8 till May 15, 2015 will be based at the Information Centre of KSO Churachandpur located at Sumkong Kaimun, Tuibuong, sources from Churachandpur said.
