DIMAPUR — In an effort to cater the needs of students and staff community, the Anthropology department of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, organised a one-day health camp at the college auditorium on April 29.
An update from the college stated that a total of nine medical doctors, who are also alumni of the college, provided voluntary service. The services included free medical consultation, medical check-up, assessment of blood pressure, and sugar level. It added that medicines were provided without any charge.
The medical team included Dr. Rüyangulie Paphino, MO of PHC Mezoma; Dr. Imnanoktsung Longchar, MO of Quality Assurance Kohima; Dr. Thejasetuo Tseikha, MO of PHC Kohima village; Dr. Khrielazo Bob Rutsa, MO; Dr. K Teresa Yhome, MO of PHC Botsa; Dr. Kelelo Pradia, MO of CHC Viswema; Dr. Medophretuo Dzuvichu, MO of CHC Viswema; Dr. Vizovotuo, MO of PHC Jotsoma; Dr. Kekhrieneizo Peseyie, MO of CHC Chiephobozou. They were assisted by Kevikono Khro, CHO; Libeni, GNM; and Baulen, ANM from PHC Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
The health camp was preceded by a formal session wherein Dr. Rüyangulie Paphino delivered a talk on mental health, an issue faced by students owing to high academic work load and pressure. While pointing out that every 4th person in the world suffers from some kind of mental health issues, he stated that young people, especially students, are at a higher risk of facing problems such as stress and anxiety.
He also mentioned that factors such as substance abuse, irregular attendance in class and lack of physical activities could elevate the level of stress, anxiety and overall mental health thus affecting the ability to focus and hampering the academic performance.
Dr. Paphino further encouraged the students to restrain from counterproductive behaviors and to be diligent and sincere in their academic work to mitigate any stress and anxiety.
It stated that more than 200 students and staff of the college were benefitted from the free health camp.
