Dimapur, April 8 (EMN): The Political Affairs Mission (PAM), constituted by the Nagaland government in March to “look into the existing socio-political issues in the state which require urgent attention”, on Saturday held a closed-door meeting with representatives of Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) at Chumukedima police complex.
This was the PAM’s first sitting with the Naga political groups. Government sources declined to reveal the discussions that took place during the meeting, citing the “closed-door” nature of the talks.
However reliable sources said that the PAM members had asked the NNPG representatives about their political plans and aspirations. The NNPG representatives were reported to have said that they intend to pursue a solution for the Nagas of Nagaland, since NSCN (IM) has been engaged in an exclusive (sans other Naga political groups) negotiation with the government of India.
The PAM members were said to have requested the NNPG leaders to work for unity among the Naga people. Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu led the PAM delegation, with Nuklutoshi Longkumer, G Kaito Aye, P Longon, Vikheho Swu and Imkong L Imchen. Two other members of the PAM, Dr TM Lotha and Thongwang Konyak did not attend the meeting.
The NNPG was represented by 36 members – 12 from GPRN/NSCN, 7 from NNC/NPGN, 6 each from NSCN (R) and NNC/GDRN, and 5 from NNC parent body.
While accounting the formation of the PAM, the state government in March 11 last had stated: “The Political Affairs Mission’s mandate is to look into the existing socio-political issues in the state which require urgent attention, for the betterment of the Naga society.
“The Political Affairs Mission so constituted by the chief minister supersedes the Political Affairs Committee and all other similar committees constituted earlier. The Political Affairs Mission will co-opt other members as and when required”.
