Four-lane woe: Land owners express discontent over compensation
Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): The NH-29 Land Owner Union (Purana Bazaar to Chümoukedima) has expressed discontent over the land compensation against the ongoing four-lane construction from Purana Bazaar to Chümoukedima. The office bearers and executive members of the union met the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur and submitted a memorandum in connection with the matter on May 1.
The union stated in its memorandum that constructing the road “by ignoring the rights and interest of the land owners is not justified” and went on to claim that many commercial building have been demolished despite the standing order of the High Court. It went on to warn that it “may be compelled to takes its own course of action to safeguard the inalienable right of the land owners.’
It has also given 15 days’ time to the state government, through the memorandum, to respond to the matter, saying that the success of the project will “solely depend” on the response.
Meanwhile, the union described its meeting with the DC as “fruitful” and said the officer “acknowledged the right of the land owners and assured us full cooperation and to expedite the matter at the earliest to ensure that the right of the land owners is not deprived.” The DC also requested the union not to obstruct the ongoing construction work.
The union went on to inform the land owners along the NH-29, who have not registered, to contact the area incharge at the earliest.
