Fire destroys 22 houses

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 23

Over 20 houses mostly occupied by tenants and seasonal vendors were completely destroyed in a major blazing fire that triggered explosion of several gas cylinders when all were away for work at Eros Colony near Blue Hills Station this morning.
Commander Fire Brigade, Lalal Gangte said, the brigade team which started around 11:10 a.m. with 6 fire engines from Dimapur and 1 fire engine from Chumukedima managede to bring the fire under control at around 12:30 p.m. He said, goods worth approximately 30 lakhs were destroyed in the inferno
One of the tenants who was asleep at the time of fire suffered severe burn injuries. He was admitted to Dr. Sharma Clinic.
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. when most of the tenants the house for their works.
22 houses were completely burnt down to ashes while an almirah factory godown was partially affected.
As per witnesses and police presonnel, 4 cylinders were exploded. The cause of the fire was not known as most of the tenants who were mostly labourers and vendors had gone out for work while some had gone to their villages to celebrate their upcoming Eid festival.
The owner of the land is said to be Roko Angami while the caretaker is Vijay Pandey.
The DC of Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, OC East Police Station and other officials also visited the site to take stock of the incident.
