An introductory programme of the Parliamentary Secretary for Home Guards & Jail, Er. Picto Shohe, was organised by the department of Civil Defence & Home Guards at Kohima Headquarter on June 5.
Er. Picto, while addressing the gathering, has sought full cooperation of the department and also urged the officers from different sections to feel free to share with him their ideas and advice for the betterment of the department.
Shohe also urged the officers and staff of the department, irrespective of size and status, to unite together in one spirit for the uplift of the department and the State as a whole. The Parliamentary Secretary assured the gathering to do his best for the department.
Giving a profile of the department, Deputy Commandant General, Medozhalie Pienyu, has briefed the Parliamentary Secretary that the Nagaland Civil Defence & Home Guards co-exist under one roof. He explained that Home Guards is a state subject with duties like assisting the Police, as security guards, static duties as requisitioned by SPs etc while Civil Defence is a central subject with matters related to natural culmination and accidents.
He said the organization is headed by a Senior IPS officer as Director General and added that the CD & Home Guards officers and personnel were trained in various Civil Defence subjects within and outside the State.
He said the training on capacity building, disaster management, preparedness, demonstration and mock drill exercises imparted to NGOs, VDBs, students, Police, public and church leaders, government servants etc is another important activities undertaken by the CD & Home Guards organization.
He also said that the department is also imparting training to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) drawing one company each from NAP (IR) Bn/ DEF and Village Guards.
Director General, Lungriading, who chaired the programme, has assured the Parliamentary Secretary of full cooperation from the department and hoped that under his leadership the department would improve immensely. The vote of thanks was proposed by Commandant General, I Toshitsungba Aier.
