Kohima, June 26 (EMN): Hundreds of children across Nagaland participated in a ‘prayer walk for children’ heralding the 150th anniversary of Christianity in Nagaland organised by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council on Sunday.

Children from 6 to 15 years old from across the state took part in the prayer walk by walking from their respective churches to strategic and nearby locations and prayed for the people.

In Kohima, children, mostly Sunday school students of different churches, adorned in traditional attire took part at various locations. They were guided by elders, teachers, and church leaders, who led them in prayers at strategic points between 2 to 3 pm.

The Christian Education department of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) earlier informed the children from all over Nagaland to participate in the ‘Prayer walk for children’ in towns and villages heralding the coming of Christianity in Nagaland.

“As we celebrate the coming of the gospel to Nagaland 150 years ago, we also realise that we live in a tumultuous and broken world, surrounded by heartache, despair and pain. The world and our churches need a praying generation to call upon the Lord in one voice, give honour and praise, give thanks for bringing salvation to us and to beseech God to show mercy on us and heal our land,” said Bideno Kikon, NBCC secretary of Christian Education.

The sesquicentennial celebration of NBCC will be held on November 19 and 20. Currently, there are a total of 1708 churches under the NBCC.

The NBCC had earlier organised a two-day bike rally with 150 bikers to signify the 150 years of Christianity in Nagaland along with the message of clean election covering various districts of the state.

Some of the prayer points made included giving thanks to God for the Gospel that was brought to Nagaland through the missionaries, pray for forgiveness of sins and the sins of state, pray for all children, pray for the vulnerable and down trodden- the orphans, sick, destitute, and abused etc.

KBCA: The Sunday School department of Kuki Baptist Church in Ahthibung (KBCA) under Peren district also organised a prayer walk on June 26. All the members including young and old participated in the prayer walk, which began from the church premises and culminated at the Memorial Park via Town Square, Hospital Junction, Pu Lengjang statue, and waiting shed in Nihei Colony.

A prayer was held at each stoppage point led by church leaders. Meanwhile, the Sunday School department of KBC Ahthibung expressed gratitude to all the participants.
