Asus has just launched its latest lineup of gaming smartphones in India, the ROG Phone 8 Series.

The ROG Phone 8 lineup consists of the standard ROG Phone 8, the ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition. Each phone in the lineup shares the same design and features apart from slight differences in storage and memory. Let’s dive into the details.

The ROG Phone 8 comes in a slimmer profile than previous iterations, measuring just 8.9mm and weighing in at 225g. This marks a significant reduction compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 7, which measured 10.3mm and weighed 239g.

While maintaining the 6.78″ display size, Asus has enhanced the visual experience by reducing bezels. However, this improvement comes at the expense of a punch-hole camera, a departure from the embedded selfie cam in the top bezel of the previous model. The new design makes the ROG Phone 8 more compact, measuring 163.8mm tall and 76.8mm wide.

The ROG Phone 8 retains the impressive 165Hz refresh rate of its predecessor but introduces an LTPO panel enabling it to switch to a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz for optimal performance. The peak brightness has been increased to an impressive 2,500 nits.

Asus claims that the new ROG Phone 8 has IP68-rated water resistance, a significant upgrade from the IP54 rating of its predecessor.

To tackle the challenges of gaming-related heat, Asus employs a unique conduction cooling system. A copper block passes through the motherboard, transferring heat to the back panel. The new AeroActive Cooler X enhances this system, offering better cooling with a smaller and lighter design.

Fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the ROG Phone 8 can be configured with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. It offers multiple configurations, starting at 12/256GB.

Asus is introducing 15W Qi wireless charging with the ROG Phone 8 series. The phone supports a 65W HyperCharge for wired charging. The company claims the device can go from 0-100% charge in just 39 minutes.

In terms of optics, the camera system features a 50MP main camera with a 6-axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabiliser 3.0, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a new 3x telephoto lens with a 32MP sensor.

Asus incorporates AI into the gaming experience with features like Auto Pick Up, Fast Forward, Running Lock, Auto Press-to-Escape, and the AI Grabber for solving puzzles. Additionally, AI is harnessed for creating unique wallpapers for the ROG Phone 8.

The ROG Phone 8 series fully supports Microsoft Phone Link, allowing users to stream apps, mirror screens, and seamlessly transfer files between the phone and PC.

The ROG Phone 8 is available in Phantom Black and Rebel Grey. On the other hand, the ROG Phone 8 Pro and Pro Edition comes only in Phantom Black. The Pro is priced at INR 94,999 and the Pro Edition is priced at INR 1,19,999.
