CIHSR raises awareness on head and neck cancer
DIMAPUR — In an effort to raise awareness on head and neck cancer, the staff and students of Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) undertook a walkathon on April 11 beginning from Chekiye gate at 3rd Mile to the hospital main gate.
An update from the institute stated that head and neck cancer is one of the most common cancers in India. GLOBOCAN estimated head and neck cancers to account for 30% of all cancer in India and was expected to rise.
It informed that the burden of this type of cancer is heavy and resulted from exposure to tobacco, alcohol, other carcinogens and infections. It also mentioned that April is observed as the head and neck cancer awareness month.
Meanwhile, it informed that screening for head and neck cancer would also be offered free of cost on the next two Saturdays of April.
