DIMAPUR — Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum (NIPF) has extended its unflinching support to the Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) in raising the alarming issue on the increasing population of non-indigenous and illegal migrants in Nagaland, especially in Chümoukedima and Dimapur.
In this regard, the NIPF called for the stringent implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) by streamlining its mechanisms and proper sensitisation of the district administrations in the state.
It expressed dismay at the Government of Nagaland for delaying in implementation of ILP in the whole of Nagaland. It added that the rally at various district headquarters on March 19, 2021, was a clear message that the indigenous people of Nagaland is much concerned about the future and safety of the people of Nagaland, which could soon be overwhelmed by the non-indigenous people as well as illegal migrants like in neighboring districts of Assam and states like Tripura and Sikkim.
“Who is responsible for selling ILPs like a commodity? What is the actual reality and who is gaining by selling the future of the Nagas? We need workers and labourers but work permits should be limited and issued only genuinely. Temporary/ seasonal visitors cannot be allowed to become permanent settlers,” NIPF said.
It was of the view that indigenous people should inculcate work culture in order to rely on themselves instead of depending on outsiders. It also asked to eradicate ‘dalal’ and paper systems and enforce online system and also cautioned corruption would destroy the future.
In light of the above stated circumstances, NIPF appealed to the government to hear and honour the genuine voice of the people before it is too late.
