DIMAPUR — Elaborating on the pivotal role of teachers in society, the chairman of the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC), Justice Songkhupchung Serto, has credited the teachers for nurturing students and enabling them to achieve greater heights in life.
Justice Serto stated this during a meeting held at the Government Higher Secondary School in Bhandari under Wokha district on October 18. Justice Serto along with NSHRC member secretary led an official team to Bhandari sub-division as part of its ongoing tour to assess the implementation of various welfare schemes linked to human rights, focusing on healthcare, education, and food security, a DIPR report stated.
Stating that teachers play an essential role in transforming society, he encouraged students to be proactive and focused in their studies.
“Learn something every day and never leave without gaining knowledge,” Justice Serto advised and encouraged the students to make a name for themselves.
The team also held interactive sessions with the teachers.
The NSHRC team also met officials from the administration, department of Civil Supplies and the GBs in Bhandari. They visited PHC Bhandari and inspected various facilities and gathered information on the challenges faced by stakeholders in the implementation of welfare schemes.
On October 17, the NSHRC team visited Liphayan, Ronsuyan, New Ralan, and Yimpha villages.
It mentioned that NSHRC, an independent statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993, is mandated to protect, promote, and prevent violations of human rights. The ongoing tour aims to collect firsthand knowledge to improve the implementation of those schemes for the welfare of the people of Nagaland.
It added that the Commission is actively encouraging individuals aggrieved by human rights violations to file complaints, both online and in writing, for prompt and effective redressal.
