State-level volleyball referee exam underway in Mokokchung
MOKOKCHUNG — With an aim to enhance refereeing competencies, skills and rules of volleyball game and to promote the overall quality and the standard of volleyball refereeing in Nagaland, the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), under the aegis of Nagaland Volleyball Association and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, is organising the Nagaland state-level volleyball referee exam 2023 from September 12 to the 15th at Multi-Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, certified FIVB Level – 1 coach and deputy director of Sports, Nagaland University, and Ramesh Babu Vidyarthi, national referee, Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and All India Referee examiner, are the two resource persons. The two resource persons will be supervising and conducting the exam.
In a brief programme on the first day of the exam, Imtipokim, president of MDVA, acknowledged the two resource persons and welcomed all the examinees. Tiwari also debunked the misconception that Nagas have no scope in volleyball due to their short stature. He said that a person good in any sport can make a career out of it.
He said that if the examinees perform well, they can become professional referees. He also informed about the inter-university sports meet East Zone and said that any student enrolled under Nagaland University from any college can participate in the trials, the details of which is given in the Nagaland University website.
Altogether, 37 individuals from Wokha, Tuensang, Longleng, Phek and Mokokchung districts, will be appearing for the referee exam.
