In a report that indicates yet another instance of mistaken identity – as indicated by a community organization’s statement on Tuesday– the Assam Rifles are alleged to have raided the residence of none other than the District Fishery Officer of Wokha, during early morning hours on the 12th in Kohima town.A statement from the Naga Kuotsu Union on Tuesday implies that the security force may have raided the house believing it to be a contractor’s.
The union alleged that the 19th Assam Rifles raided the house of Ketusielie Kuotsu, District Fishery Officer of Wokha, at Officers’ Hill of Kohima town from 2:45 AM to 7:00 AM “even after disclosing himself as well as wife (working in Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhavan) government servant with identity proof and not a contractor as questioned”.
“This in fact is a great insult and demeaning to government servants who even after proving themselves as government servant was not paid any heed; and even after ascertaining the identity and not the one as sought; raided the house for more than 4 hours without any piece of suspicion or illegal possessions to be found,” the union said in its statement.
“This has proven insecurity of innocent citizens at the hands of law enforcing agencies like Assam Rifles who are supposed to be guardians of the law and protect innocent citizens”.
The organization has demanded an apology from the Assam Rifles for the harassment meted out to the harassed family. Likewise, the organization has demanded the identity of the ‘informer’ whose possible information may have led to the outrage.
“Such action of Assam Rifles on an innocent citizen and family is highly condemnable and questionable, hence should tender public apology for harassment and agony meted out to an innocent member and family of our clan. Assam Rifles should made public the identity of such treacherous informer or of the source who might have done so out of hatred or jealousy or with wrong motives, or any lapses committed on the part of Assam Rifles should be made public so that such agonizing incidents do not happen to any innocent citizen in future,” the union stated.
The statement was appended by president of the union Bizo M Kuotsu and general secretary Neisievilie Lhousa.
