16th edition of KSU Martyrs Trophy begins

The 16th Edition of the Kyong Students Union Martyr’s Trophy started today at local ground Wokha with Deputy Commissioner, Wokha A. Robin Lotha as the chief guest.
‘As you take part in this tournament, remember and respect the two leaders who sacrificed their life for the cause of the students’ community’ said the Deputy Commissioner while speaking during the inaugural function of the 16th edition of the KSU martyrs trophy.
He also appealed the teams to exhibit their talents in the true sportsmanship and in good spirit.
KSU President, Amos Odyuo, while giving in brief the significance of organizing the tourney said that the KSU organize this tournament annually in memory of Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung and Lt. Chumdamo Tungoe who were killed on 14th April 1977 while the then Lotha Students Union organized a protest rally to show their resentment against the inhuman act of the Assam Police in manhandling the then SDO (C) Ralan. The President also added that since then the KSU has been observing the 14th April as Black Day and organize this tournament in memory of the two martyrs.Short speech was also delivered by Chairman Lotha Hoho, Mhao Humtsoe.
All together 20 teams are taking part in the tournament. Beside other individuals prizes the champions will get a cash award of Rs. 40000/- (forty thousand), Runners-Up Rs. 20000/- (twenty thousand) and best discipline team Rs. 5000/- (five thousand). MLA, 40 A/C Bhandari, Mmhonlumo Kikon also contributed one lakh towards the organisers.
